Es una lástima que el 80° aniversario del ataque que lanzó Japón contra la base naval de Estados Unidos en Pearl Harbor haya recibido tan poca atención pública. Vivimos en un tiempo que presenta algunas similitudes desagradables con el periodo previo al ataque japonés. Y, estamos perdiendo la capacidad de sorpresa que podría ayudarnos a prevenir o impedir una catástrofe similar en el futuro.
La primera similitud: En tres escenarios separados, Estados Unidos enfrenta a adversarios formidables que tienen designios territoriales agresivos.
La última vez que esto ocurrió fue con Alemania en Europa, Japón en Asia e Italia en el Mediterráneo y África. Ahora, Rusia puede invadir Ucrania pronto en un desafío casi alegre al gobierno del presidente Joe Biden. China, está construyendo una maquinaria bélica para tomar Taiwán y si fuera necesario derrotar a Estados Unidos en una guerra abierta; e Irán, que ha convertido a El Líbano, Siria y partes de Irak, Gaza y Yemen en estados clientes o satrapías, mientras se acerca al umbral de convertirse en un Estado con armas nucleares.
La segunda similitud: En cada caso, el desafío no solo es territorial. Es ideológico.

La tercera similitud: Los objetivos directos de su agresión son relativamente débiles.
Taiwán tiene planes para incrementar su presupuesto militar, pero en la actualidad apenas gasta el 2% de su Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) en defensa nacional.
Ucrania ha sido desgastada por años de un conflicto de bajo nivel con grupos separatistas respaldados por Rusia, y ni que hablar de la corrupción y la incompetencia que ha definido sus 30 años de vida independiente.
Irán se ha aprovechado del caos que siguió a la Primavera Árabe y a la retirada de Estados Unidos de Medio Oriente para armar y envalentonar a sus apoderados como Hamás y Hezbolá.
La cuarta similitud: Estados Unidos -igual que el Reino Unido, Francia y el propio Estados Unidos en la década de los años 30- es una potencia ambivalente, herida que mira a su interior, y muestra inseguridad respecto de si quiere mantenerse como el garante de la seguridad de los países que se encuentran bajo amenaza.
En 1935, justo antes de que Italia invadiera Abisinia (con esa denominación se le conocía entonces a Etiopía), el semanario británico Punch se mofó de la débil respuesta de Occidente ante la agresión dictatorial, con un poema satírico.
Comparemos eso con algunas de las ideas que ahora son adoptadas o consideradas para castigar a nuestros adversarios.
En lo que respecta a China, Estados Unidos enviará atletas, pero no funcionarios diplomáticos, a los Juegos Olímpicos de Invierno que tendrán lugar en Pekín.
En cuanto a Rusia, el gobierno del presidente Biden considera “bloquear a los oligarcas rusos el uso de tarjetas de crédito Visa y Mastercard”, de acuerdo con lo que ha informado The New York Times.
Y, en relación con Irán, el gobierno estadounidense advierte que está preparado para usar “otras herramientas”, ante la eventualidad de que fracase la diplomacia en el caso del programa nuclear. Es una advertencia que resultaría más ominosa su no hubiera sido parte de la matriz diplomática estadounidense durante casi dos décadas.
La quinta similitud: El equilibrio del poder militar se inclina de manera creciente contra Occidente.
Estados Unidos puede tener aún las Fuerzas Armadas más poderosas y tecnológicamente sofisticadas del mundo, al igual que el Reino Unido tuvo la Marina más grande y Francia un Ejército enorme antes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Pero, Estados Unidos se encontrará en dificultades para aplicar el poderío decisivo contra China en una guerra por Taiwán, que China podría intentar ganar con rapidez, mientras pondría al territorio estadounidese en riesgo con su creciente arsenal nuclear. El Pentágono también ha cometido el error de concentrar su poder de fuego en un número pequeño de plataformas costosas y vulnerables, como los portaaviones, en lugar de distribuir su poderío en numerosas plataformas que sean lo “suficientemente buenas”.

und Beleuchtung ausgewählt, um mehr Sicherheit und Mobilität bei schwierigen Verkehrsverhältnissen zu ermöglichen. Zu
den getesteten Produkten zählten ferner Schneeketten, LED-Leuchten und Anhänger.
Da die fertigen Anleitungen mit möglichst geringem finanziellen und zeitlichen Aufwand umgesetzt und angepasst
werden sollen, setzten sich schließlich die Beleuchtung (Open Lights)
und der Anhänger (Open Trailer) bei den Projektteilnehmern durch.
Zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt wurden die Projekte in mehreren Workshops ausprobiert und überarbeitet, während das Fablab Berlin jeweils die Herstellung
der Prototypen übernahm. Hiermit Anhänger am Rollstuhl wird es
einfacher, eine Begleitung oder schwere, unhandliche Dinge zu transportieren. Die Lichter führen mehr Sichtbarkeit im Straßenverkehr.
